Does anyone really know what these terms mean? Great product packaging doesn't have to be bad for the environment, right? Do all these terms mean the same thing or do they cancel themselves out?
To be honest, I bet most companies don't even know if their packaging can be called all of these things, meaning recyclable, biodegradable, and landfill friendly. My point here is this, there are so many pipelines of information with blogs, websites, Twitter feeds, etc about helping and hurting our resources, frankly it's confusing.
Today's post is an attempt to clarify some things, an attempt to set the record straight about one of the hottest trends in the packaging industry, stand up pouches and if in fact they are recyclable, biodegradable, and landfill friendly.
Stand up pouches, also known as stand bags or stand up bags, are in fact, recyclable, meaning they can be re-used and/or re-purposed for other things. Stand up bags are landfill friendly, meaning they can be thrown away in the trash. One thing they are not is biodegradeable.
Stand up pouches are not biodegradable for a number of good reasons, first and foremost because they are made to stand on a store shelf and need to be constructed of material that is strong enough to hold the contents while maintaining their stability. Further, this same construction is used to create the barrier properties to keep the product inside fresher for longer.
Refer to the presentation above for more detailed information but in closing know that great product packaging does not have to hurt our environment and stand up pouches, stock and plain or custom and printed are proof of just that.
