Are Pouches Better Than Tins for Dog Food?

Yes, stand up pouches used in dog treat packaging are better than tin cans as they are more economical for manufacturers. Plus it is easier to use for dog owners, and safer for dogs.

(1) Economy

For dog food manufacturers looking for inexpensive packaging, tin cans are no match for stand up pouches. Custom printed stand up pouches cost between 15 and 20 cents apiece. In comparison, an empty tin can cost more than 60 cents apiece. Therefore stand up are less expensive to produce.

(2) Ease of use

Unlike tin cans, stand up pouches are flexible in nature. They can fit inside a container of virtually any shape. This is unlike tin cans that require a special container or space for storage. Once opened, the food in a tin can has to be consumed in one go. This is not mandatory with resealable stand up pouches. Dog owners can buy smaller, medium, or large pouches, according to their convenience. The range is more varied in plastic bags than in tin cans. Also, stand up bags are easier to carry, so frequent travelers have an easy time with them.

(3) Safety

An improperly opened tin can with rough edges can hurt a dog’s mouth. Unless your dog can swallow a pouch, plastic stand up bags are harmless to a canine.

If you are planning to package dog treats, we strongly recommend using standup pouches for the above reasons.
