The snack food industry is constantly reinventing itself and adapting to the changing needs of its consumers. Snack food packaging is evolving too, to keep up with the needs of the industry. Pouches and stand up bags are currently a popular method to package snacks of various sorts – ranging from potato chips to trail mix. These bags and pouches are popular because they are easily configurable to meet the packaging needs of any particular snack.

There are several popular designs of snack food bags and pouches that are currently available in the market. For instance, the use of metalized bags is popular to package potato chips while trail mix can be packaged in bags with a relatively simple design. The best design for snack packaging ultimately depends on the snack being packaged. Several other factors also influence the design of the packaging.

Currently some companies are experimenting with non-plastic materials such as rice paper and cotton paper. However, plastic remains the most common manufacturing material due to its robustness and easy portability.  The most important factors in snack packaging are its protection and freshness. Currently plastic bags fulfill both these functions well. There are other factors as well, like packaging designs and zipper seals, but these factors are secondary.
