Standup pouches are made of multiple laminate layers. These layers are generally made of plastics or plastic and aluminum blend. It gives them a lot of strength and they are tear and puncture resistant. This also makes sure that external contaminants do not enter the bag.
Here is the complete process for the creation of a typical standup bag:
The process begins when the laminate material (made from several plastic and aluminum layers) is passed through plows that fold the bottom into a neat gusset so that the packet can stand erect. At this point, the additional features of the bag are added. For example, if you want to attach a zip to the bag, it is added to the inside of the bag, near the top. There are other features as well, like perforation and spouts. The additional features depend on the type of product that you want to package.
Once the bottom is folded into a gusset and additional features are installed, it’s time to form vertical seals. These seals are formed along the sides of the pouch. Then the zip lock is pressed to seal the ends together. This reduces the thickness of the pouch. Next, the bottom of the pouch is sealed. The sides of the pouch that hold the gusset together are also sealed.
Now the side seals of the stand up pouch are cut vertically through their center, which gives it the shape of a bag. The pouch is ready and is carried to the station where it will be filled with the product. Alternatively, it can also be shipped directly to the client, and they can fill it themselves. For this, the pouches are packed in a carton and shipped.
What happens if the pouch has to get filled at the station?
After filling, the zip lock is closed and the pouch is sealed above the zipper. We generally cut tear notches in the seal so that it can be torn at the right place. This makes the pouch easier to open for the end user. After the product has been filled and sealed, these stand up pouches are shipped to the client.
This is just the basic process of a simple standup pouch. The real process also involves printing and designing the pouch. For this, we generally provide ideas to the client and help them arrive at a final decision. Once they decide the right design, we create a sample for their approval. We use high quality rotogravure printing where each cylinder is created especially for your pouch.
