How to Fold a Crisp Bag to Make It Stand?

You can fold the strips that are found on both ends of the crisp bag and lean it against a wall or any solid vertical surface to make it stand erect. This is the simplest way.

A second method involves holding the crisp bag with one hand, and raising the middle of its bottom to its center with the other hand. This will create an almost flat bottom and make the bag look like a standup pouch. The raised ears can be folded in half so that when viewed from the side, their triangular shape looks like a trapezium. This fold creates two lean legs which are sufficiently strong to carry the weight of a crisp bag. It can hold some crisps, but if you want to overload the bag, it won't work.

In a third method, the crisp bag is first cut, and then folded into one-inch folds. The folds are creased to create a solid base. This base is then allowed to unfold so that it takes the shape of a hollow cuboid without a top and a bottom. This hollow cuboid can bear the weight of crisps and keep the bag stand erect.

The list is unending. But what is clear from the methods mentioned above is that folding a crisp bag to stand erect is an unnecessary and cumbersome task. Even though folding crisp bags to make them stand is an entertaining activity, it is not commercially viable and desirable. No supermarket owner wants to spend time folding or cutting crisp bags to make them stand on store shelves. Cutting bags creates more problems than it solves. A small cut or puncture opens the door for dirt, moisture, and harmful bacteria to enter packaging and make the crisps unfit to eat.

For manufacturers and storekeepers, there exists a simpler way to stand crisp bags - the use of stand up pouches. Pouch bags with gussets can stand on a level surface without the need of a vertical object to lean on. There are three kinds of gussets that can be used. Each of them allows the crisp bag to stand erect. The use of stand up pouches for food packaging in general, and crisp packaging in particular, has other advantages as well. These bags are less expensive to produce, more environment-friendly, can carry great designs, and support many accessories. So if you want to package crisps, make sure to use standup bags.
