Flour packaging is a multistage process. Although machines do the maximum work – from bag making to ad design – humans also play a crucial role. Manual work is usually limited to quality checking and entering design criteria such as bag dimensions, ad design, etc.
The first stage of manufacturing flour bags is to make barriers. These barriers are made from several layers of polymers and oxide resistant material. Such food packaging pouches may have five layers – oxide barrier, polymer layer, second oxide barrier, second polymer layer, and substrate. The oxide barriers keep the food product fresh for a long period, and the polymer is added to give strength to the whole structure. They are heat glued to make the barriers.
Second stage of flour packaging is functionality. This includes the addition of hang holes, tear notches, zippers and seals etc. which add more utility to the bags.
The third stage of packaging is brand making. This is usually done on computers in design departments. The designers come up with all kinds of innovative ideas to convey product information on stand up bags and make your brand stand out. The ads are printed just beneath the transparent outermost layer of the barrier.
