Hoovers™, a leading provider of B2B information, reports* that the US snack foods manufacturing industry, which includes approximately 500 companies, accounts for $27 billion in revenue per annum. It further reports that 90% of that revenue is produced by the top 50 companies in the industry. When you do the math, it means that the remaining 450 companies compete for approximately $2.7 billion of total revenue. Needless to say, competition is stiff and you should take advantage of any and all opportunities to gain a competitive edge. Trust me, the BIG BOYS will stop at nothing to gain a competitive advantage.
Marketing is, of course, such an opportunity. But we don't necessarily mean just advertising and promotional campaigns. When we talk about marketing snacks, we are talking about employing the most basic marketing tool available: Your product packaging. Why? Because more than half of all shoppers do not make a decision on which product to buy until they are standing in a store aisle staring at the choices on the shelf. For those folks, the package that is most eye-catching is likely the one they will buy. In other words, packaging is sometimes the only way for your snacks to make a first impression, especially if they're new to the market.
Marketing snacks with stand up pouches is a great way to increase your product sales. A stand up pouch, sometimes referred to as a stand up bag or Mylar™ stand bag, offers many features that make it ideal for both conveying your product to market and displaying it once it's there.
Constructed from laminating together multiple layers of specially formulated film, stand up pouches are stable, strong, durable and puncture resistant. They keep moisture and vapor, odor and pests out and keep freshness, flavor and aroma in. Available tear notches and zip seal closures provide convenient opening and storage.
The design of stand up bags is, in and of itself, an aid to marketing snacks. You can have the bags custom-printed with your text and graphics or affix your own labels. Clear film windows are also available with either option. In fact, you can combine any or all of these choices.
No package design is completely effective in the absence of a favorable store display. Of course, while the bags stand up on the shelf (and stand out from the competition), they can also be displayed via round or sombrero-style hang holes.
Marketing snacks using stand up pouches? It's food for thought.
