Stand Up Pouches for Product Packaging

Mesh Bags Versus Cardboard Box: Cost of Packaging

Mesh bags compare favorably to cardboard boxes in costs. Mesh bags are cheaper, so businesses that use mesh bags to package their products save money. On the downside, mesh bags cannot be used to package a lot of products. They are good for packaging vegetables and a few other food and non-food items. But they are nearly useless when it comes to packaging for tea, coffee, cereals, meat, beef jerky, juices, and plenty of other food items. Even in non-food items such as electronic products, mesh bags do not have much of a use. So even though mesh bags are cheaper than cardboard boxes, their use is limited.

Stand up pouch bags combine the best qualities of cardboard boxes and mesh bags. Like mesh bags, they are inexpensive. And like cardboard boxes, they can be used to package a variety of objects.

The cost of a high quality, custom printed stand up pouch is between 15 and 20 cents. This is slightly more than the cost of cheaper mesh bags, and a bit less than high quality mesh bags. The production cost of stand up bags is less than half that of cardboard boxes; which cost businesses more than 35 cents apiece. Transportation and storage costs for all three packaging mediums are minimal but stand up pouches and mesh bags offer an added advantage. Since they don’t take much space, they don’t need big trucks for transportation.

Besides cost, stand up pouches offer other advantages over cardboard boxes and mesh bags. Unlike mesh bags, stand up pouches can be used in the packaging of cereals, coffee, tea, beef jerky, and other food items. They can also be used for dog treat packaging and the packaging of other pet foods. Stand up pouches have a multiple layered structure. This structure does an effective job of guarding a packaged product against humidity, dirt, and other environmental factors. Therefore stand up pouches can be used for the packaging of electronic products as well.

Finally, stand up pouches are more print friendly than cardboard boxes and mesh bags. The structure of mesh bags makes it relatively difficult to print highly customized designs. The structure of cardboard boxes does not allow for expansive designs. Stand up pouches have a large front and broad back. This area can be used to imprint highly customized and expansive designs.

To conclude, even though mesh bags are cheaper than cardboard boxes, this saving comes with a catch. Manufacturers cannot store many things in mesh bags. Stand up pouches offer a nice way out. They are cheaper that cardboard boxes and they can be used to store virtually anything.
