Pesto Loves a Plastic Pouch

Food and Beverage PackagingIf you’re a fan of Italian food, then you know all about pesto.  It’s a common and ancient flavoring mix made of basil, pine nuts, garlic, Parmesan cheese and olive oil.  Those who love it are aware that it must be eaten quickly after it’s made, or it loses its freshness.  That’s why a plastic pouch is the perfect way to store this yummy pasta seasoning.

Normally pesto is used in small quantities – you only need a few tablespoons to create an amazing pasta sauce that tingles on the palate.  Barrier bags are the perfect way to store pesto because they come in small sizes with a convenient spout to squeeze out the paste.  This way the pesto never loses its freshness; it can be only used for one or two meals before it runs out.  Perfect for the fussy Italian chef!

A version of pesto originated with the Romans who mixed herbs with garlic and olive oil.  It’s also used in French cooking, but without the pine nuts – it’s called pistou.  People who love herbs in their soups, sauces and pasta dishes love the convenience of flexible food packaging.  It allows them to maintain quality while keeping up creative experimentation.
