Without question, the biggest concern for companies large and small regarding printed stand up bags is handling their artwork. Whether they've had their artwork designed for them or have no idea where to start, here is where clients get stuck. As part of our 5 Part series of Printed Stand Up Bags, this Step Three involves our Artwork or Printing Guidelines.
Regardless of who you use for printed stand up bags, they are going to require your artwork in a certain format, whether it is in an Illustrator file or Photoshop or something similar. Often graphics designers have never worked with a printed stand up bag or they feel it will be the same as printing on paper or some other substrate. It's not. Printed stand up bags are made from multiple layers of barrier film and colors printed on film will look differently than colors printed on paper or a corrugated box, etc.
Graphics designers need to work with, not against, the manufacturers of printed stand up bags. Designers who don't have experience printing stand up bags will design artwork that has a gazillion colors and each color requires a printing cylinder, more on those later. This in turn makes the finished printed pouch too expensive for the client to afford.
However, if the graphics designers and the manufacturers work together, discuss what the client is trying to do, how the client wants their artwork or design to ultimately look, often the number of colors and ultimately the cost will be minimized and everyone will get what they want. The best outcomes are when client + graphic designer + stand up bag manufacturer discuss the project together in order to create packaging that can be filled and shipped with confidence.
