Side Gusset Stand Up Pouch -- Game Changer Part Two

Stand up pouches, also known as stand bags or stand up bags have historically been made with a bottom gusset that enables the pouch to "stand" effectively.  These bottom gussets have advantages depending on the type of product, the weight that goes into the pouch, etc.  Per my post the other day, a new design that is roaring onto the scene is known as a side gusset stand up bag. 

While still new, it's revolutionary design and inherent advantages are sure to make this a game changer.  The side gusset stand bag uses 12% less film while being able to hold more volume in the same area.  Further, it can be made with a ziplock top, enabling the pouch to be opened and closed while keeping the contents fresh. 

The design of this type of stand bag, like a box, allows easy filling and discharge and the flat bottom assures that the pouch will stand effectively on a store shelf.  From a marketing standpoint, the side gusset stand bag has 5 faces or areas on which to apply printing, text, and graphics.  This of course is a marketer's dream! 

Since these are so new minimum runs will be higher than other stand up bag styles but overall there are some key things to keep in mind.  ALL stand up pouches, whether side gusset or bottom gusset style, are made from multiple layers of engineered barrier film.  This barrier film provides properties that not only keep the product fresher for longer, they protect from moisture, vapor, odor, sunlight, and even puncture resistance.
