People everywhere around the world are becoming more aware of the environment.  Whether they’re old or young, single or married, parents or childless – consumers want flexible packaging options that respect the earth.  A few years ago Lonza Ltd contacted us to replace their rigid plastic bottles and jars.  Not only were these items expensive, but they took up a ton of space in a landfill when disposed.  The tricky part was they actually wanted us to mimic the cloudy-frosty clarity of the plastic bottles.  Most companies want the clarity, but Lonza wanted the cloudy so we needed to combine different film structures that not only provided the barrier properties to protect their product, we needed the structures to ultimately look cloudy.

The great news is that there’s a stand up bag for just about every substance known to humankind.  Nowadays, pet foods, baby foods and snack foods are contained using this convenient option, too.  Pharmaceuticals like the Lonza example and health foods come in an array of different foil pouches, all colorfully designed and attractive to the eye.  

Consumers are educated about what thick plastics do to the landfill and the environment; they know that recycling these products is energy-consuming.  A thin plastic pouch is much easier on the earth than a stiff plastic bottle – and lighter to carry, too.

It’s really good to know that attractiveness of package design can be combined with a lightweight, environmentally-friendly method that guarantees freshness.  So many products are now being packaged this way, it has become a revolution!
