Standup pouches are less expensive than tin cans because fewer resources are used to produce them. Better still, these bags can be stored flat, so manufactures also save money on inventory costs. Needless to say, many cat food manufacturers now prefer stand up bags over tin cans.
1. Production
Manufacturers of cat food can purchase a custom printed stand up bag for about 15 to 20 cents. A tin can, on the other hand, may cost as much as 60 cents. But that is hardly surprising. Stand up bags are chiefly made of plastic which is cheaper than metals. Metals are more expensive because they cannot be procured easily. Since plastic is a lot more flexible than tin, it takes much less energy to configure it into desired shapes. This also reduces the cost of production.
2. Inventory costs
Stand up pouches for food are very thin and light. In fact, 1,000 standup pouches will neatly fit inside a large crate. On the other hand, you will need a medium-sized room to store a thousand tin cans.
3. Transportation
A standup pouch weighs much less than a tin can. It also occupies much less space. So a truck can transport many times more stand bags than cans in one trip.
4. Usage
Fewer size options are available with tin cans. So even if you only need a small quantity of cat food, you will have to buy a whole can. On the other hand, stand up bags are available in nearly all shapes and sizes. This allows consumers to buy just as much cat food as they need. These pouches are also resealable.
With so many features, pouches are certainly better than cans.
