Cartons have been a common type of packaging for decades. They used to be a great choice for packaging dry foods and a variety of products because they allowed for printing on the entire surface of the package, were fairly light in weight, and worked well for storage. While cartons still have those same features, stand up packaging is quickly making cartons a thing of the past. What has happened could simply be referred to as evolution in packaging because stand up bags supersede cartons in every possible way.

For example, if carton packaging has to also use a bag on the inside of the box, that same product can be more easily packed for less in a stand up bag.
