Stand Up Pouches 101 -- What Size Do I Need

We get asked this question from large multi-national companies and small companies just starting out.  Often someone will rattle off a "I need a stand up bag that will hold 8 ounces."  That's it, 8 ounces.  Is that 8 ounces of granola or 8 ounces of rock salt?  Is it 8 ounces of protein powder or 8 fluid ounces of a liquid?  See where I'm going here?  Every product is different and every customer will have different situations that need to be taken into account.  Will a stand up pouch be filled manually by hand or automatically?  If manually filled, the force of the fill shouldn't blast away at the strength of the pouch, but quite possibly an automatic filler could, so this will need to be taken into consideration.

How the stand up pouch will be used and stored and shipped, etc, these are all important things to know but to really simplify things I'm going to focus only on answering the question, what size stand up bag do I need?  There are two main ways to answer this.

Go to your local grocery and find a bag or bags and empty those contents and fill it with your product.  If you find something that works, great, take those dimensions and send to us.  However, we are all about making things simple for our clients so instead of doing that, request a sample pack and we'll send you an entire kit of all our stock sizes to try along with some printed samples to see our print quality if that may be of interest to you.  Keep in mind, one of our stock pouches may be the perfect size, often it won't, but now you'll be able to fill and say that the 5 x 8 x 3 stand up bag would be perfect "if" it was 1 inch longer, or something like that.  Now you can dial in what size you need.

From there we'll work with you regarding all of the other issues pertaining to your stand up pouch, the material, how thick it needs to be, do you wanted it printed or plain, with a ziplock or without, etc.  But first you need to know the size.

Rest assured, this may seem like a silly step but it really isn't.  It all starts and ends with the proper size stand up pouch for your product.  Once you know what you need, all of the other pieces fall into place.  Want to learn more?
