Standup Pouches Inside Out

Standup pouches have changed the packaging industry, and products like fruit juices, coffee, and pet foods are now packaged in barrier bags. With the use of materials such as foil lamination, custom made barrier films, and metalized films, standup bags are not just appealing but very functional as well.

To increase the utility of these bags, there are many add-ons like zip locks, clear films, release valves, and spouts. With these bags, retailers get new opportunities to showcase their products and make the best use of their shelf space. At the manufacturer end, these bags are useful as they eliminate the traditional bag-in-box method of packaging. For the consumer, these bags are easy to use and store. In essence, standup bags are useful for everyone.

Standup pouches offer a wide face which is perfect for high quality printing or elaborate labeling. There are three main measurements of standup pouches: width, height, and bottom. While the width and height can be measured from the outside, the bottom portion of the bottom gusset is two times the distance between the outer bottom edge and the length of the internal fold.

Standup bags are mainly of three types:

Round bottom gusset: These are the most common type of standup pouches. In these pouches, there is a welded edge that provides support to hold up the packet. This lets the bag stand up in an erect position. These packets are generally for storing less than one pound of the product.

K seal bottom: When you need to package a lot of material in one bag, the round bottom gusset is not the right option. In such a case, you can use the K seal bottom. In this pouch, there are seals on both sides of the bag that rise at 30o angles. This gives extra strength to the bag and it can hold more content.

Plow bottom: The plow bottom pouch is also called the corner seal pouch as it is made from a single piece of film and doesn’t have any seal. This makes the packet especially useful for granular products. This style is also suitable for products that weigh more than a pound.

You can put in some add-on features to standup bags and increase their utility. Some such add-ons are spouts (for liquids), zippers (for re-sealable packets), hang holes and handles (for each storage), and windows (for display).

The major reason why many manufacturers choose standup bags is that these pouches are very economical. They cost far less than bottles, jars, and cans. Also, since they don’t break like glass bottles, there is less wastage. Pouches help manufacturers save money in transportation as well. You can load thousands of pouches in a small truck and save the cost of transportation. And since these pouches don’t accumulate heat like glass bottles, the food products don’t rot very soon.

These were just the monetary advantages of standup bags. These bags also help in brand promotion, as they offer five sides on which manufacturers can print their brand information and other product details.

Apart from that, these bags use fewer resources, so they are eco friendlier than other packaging methods. Also, when they are thrown into a landfill, they take minimum space. This makes them a green packaging option.
On the retailer end, they take less space on the shelves, so they are more preferred. And since they don’t break like glass bottles, there is no mess, making these pouches even more attractive.

So if you are a trader or a manufacturer looking for some packaging methods for your product, try standup bags. You won’t be disappointed.
