Coffee packaging has come a long way since the days of burlap sacks and tin cans. Glass jars, foil single-serving tubes and bags and pouches all now among the packaging options for coffee products. Perhaps the most effective coffee packaging, however, is the stand up pouch, and for a number of reasons.
Stand up pouches are the product of laminating together multiple layers of scientifically formulated film to create a packaging bag that protects contents from vapor, odor, moisture, pests, air and light. Coffee especially benefits from this type of packaging as the stand up pouch barrier also seals in the freshness, the flavor and the aroma that coffee lovers so adore. With available zip lock closures, the pouches prolong the shelf life of coffee, making refrigeration unnecessary (not that people should refrigerate their coffee!).
A major challenge for your
coffee packaging: To distinguish your brand in the marketplace. Stand up pouches do exactly that. As they stand up on the shelf, they permit your coffee products to stand apart from those of your competition. Available hang holes (either round or sombrero-style) offer retailers and coffee shops a second display option.
Stand up pouches have wide front and back panels which enable you to affix your own labels, order direct application of printing customized according to your needs, or combine the two. If fact, if you so desire, you can even incorporate the use of clear film to display your product line. As a side note, an up and coming new style of stand up pouch works very well with coffee, a flat bottom stand up bag. As the name implies these pouches have a flat bottom so they stand perfectly straight and they have side gussets so they mimic a box in many respects and even come with a ziplock so no more tin ties or resealable tape. Overall, a flat bottom stand up bag holds more yet uses 12% less film. Coffee in certain stages produces an outgas and flat bottom stand up bags for coffee packaging can also be made with a gas release valve.
Given that many of us consume coffee daily,
coffee packaging should be convenient to use. Stand up pouches are. As noted, they stand up on the shelf, therefore they store neatly in the home, saving space in the kitchen cupboard or pantry. Tear notches can be ordered, permitting easy mess-free opening, the lack of which is usually apparent whenever one tries to open a sealed bag of coffee by pulling on the sides a bit too hard: Either coffee flies everywhere or the bag is torn. And, as we mentioned, zip lock closures are available, allowing tidy, spill-free storage.
Stand up pouches: There's never bean...errr...been better coffee packaging.
