Why Do We Need 2 mm Consistent Border On Around Our Artwork?

This is a frequently asked question by our clients. They want to know why we keep a 2 mm consistent border length around artwork. This concept is not hard to understand. In this post, we share with you the reasons behind the consistent border:

There are two reasons for keeping a consistent border when we make stand up bags:

(a) We create large rolls or huge sheets with your artwork on it. To make food pouches packaging out of this roll or sheet of printed material, we need to cut it. Our laser cutters cut along the 2mm border. Without the border, we run a risk of cutting through the main artwork.

(b) The border provides a consistency in quality. Without the 2mm border, it will very hard to maintain uniformity in design because it’s hard to figure out where artwork for one pouch ends and begins.

These are fair explanations, but they do not satisfy everyone. Some of our clients have asked why don’t we create large artworks and then trim them. They have presented this as an alternative to white borders.

Our response is that cutting and trimming is inefficient. It takes money to print. Once we trim a part of the artwork, we essentially waste that money because trimmed pieces are little better than scrap.

This is the simplest answer for the question of the 2 mm border. If you still have questions on any aspect of stand up pouches, feel free to contact us through our website.
