Eco-Logic
What a cool product…see Seventh Generation. A paper outer shell and a recycled plastic inner container. The idea is to make it easy to disassemble when the container is finished being used and the paper can be recycled and the plastic inner can be recycled. Great idea…but how effective is it? Some companies love it…actually having an eco paper shell is a huge selling point, but there are limits, like printing capability versus a water-based label, etc. Need Help on Eco-Logic Click Here
Sempack
A very unique material and packaging design from Europe that has not hit the US market yet. Why not be the first? This is in essence a patented flexible pouch that is rigid enough to stand like a bottle, has a base to stand and can be inverted on it’s top or lid so it can stand the other way as well. What makes this unique and innovative is it is 100% recyclable…including the lid, including the structure of the pouch itself. Think of products that normally would be packaged in rigid containers like shampoo, soap, jelly, jam, sauces, condiments, etc. Now you have a package that is 100% recyclable…100% and can be filled Hot or Cold and can be filled using current bottling equipment.
Did you know that 25% of the world’s pollution comes from food and other waste that is still inside the packaging? Did you know that the popular inverted stand up pouches for Daisy sour cream and Chobani lose over 15% of the product because it is stuck inside the packaging and cannot be discharged? Think of the wasted profit…think of the cost to consumers…think of the environment! Sempack discharges nearly 98%.
Compostable and Biodegradable Stand Up Pouches and Flexible Packaging
We are really excited about these bags. They can be printed up to 6 colors, using brown kraft or white kraft. To learn more, we wrote extensively about them HERE.
Biodegradable Bottles and Jars
Biodegradable Bottles and Jars are a really exciting new development...not without it's issues either. Made with a resin known as PLA, some companies frown on it's use while some love it. Same goes with some countries, where the use of PLA in certain materials has caused an out-gas that supposedly is bad for the environment. Like all eco friendly packaging options out there, each one has its advantages and disadvantages.
Look...we've thrown a lot at you and the eco friendly packaging sector is very exciting, however, as always...count on your packaging professional for help and guidance. Click here for HELP or use the button below. By the way this is part of a much broader topic and eBook.
